Description
Qsymia is a prescription oral capsule combining phentermine and topiramate extended-release, used for chronic weight management alongside a healthy diet and exercise. It is approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or greater (or 27+ with a weight-related condition) and for children ages 12–17.
How It Works and Dosage
- Mechanism: Phentermine suppresses appetite, while topiramate increases the feeling of fullness and makes food taste less appealing.
- Starting Dose: 3.75 mg phentermine / 23 mg topiramate once daily in the morning for the first 14 days.
- Maintenance Dose: Increases to 7.5 mg / 46 mg daily; higher doses (up to 15 mg / 92 mg) may be prescribed if weight loss is insufficient after 12 weeks
